How to Measure Your Curtains

Measuring your curtains is simple. Follow the guide below to get the best result for your space.

Before You Measure

Decide Curtain Type

Single curtain — opens to one side

Pair — two panels that open from the centre

For accurate results, always use a metal tape measure.

Soft measuring tapes (like fabric or sewing tapes) can stretch and lead to incorrect sizing.

Step 1

Decide Your Coverage Style

 

Choose how much of the wall you want your curtains to cover:

 

1. Full Wall (Recommended)

Covers the entire wall from side to side.

Creates a clean, high-end look and makes the room feel larger.

 

2. Window + Margin

Covers the window with extra space on both sides.

We recommend adding at least 20cm on each side of the window for better light blocking and a balanced look.

Step 2

Measure the Height

 

There are two common options:

 

Floor to Ceiling

 

  • Measure from the ceiling down to the floor

  • To ensure the curtain hangs neatly above the floor, allow for a 4cm clearance for the track

Example:

If your floor-to-ceiling height is 240cm, your curtain height should be 236cm

Step 3

Measure the Width

​

  • Measure the total width you want to cover

  • If choosing Window + Margin, use:

​

Window width + 40cm total (20cm each side) or more is recommended

 

  • If choosing Full Wall, measure wall to wall

Step 4

Double Check
 

Before submitting your measurements:

  • Measure twice

  • Confirm width and height clearly

  • Let us know your preferred coverage style and curtain type

Note:

​

For new builds, measurements can be completed before GIB (plasterboard) and flooring are installed.
 
We measure based on framing and window openings, allowing you to place curtain orders earlier and reduce waiting time.
 
Final dimensions will take into account standard material thickness, including:

 

  • GIB plasterboard (approximately 10mm for walls and 13mm for ceilings)
  • Flooring finishes such as carpet or laminate (typically 8–15mm)

 

 
This ensures your curtains will fit correctly once construction is completed.
